The last couple of Colorado Birding Challenges I have targeted Broomfield County, as I have typically been working around Little League schedules, given the last few challenges were in May. Broomfield County was a smaller and more convienent location to the baseball fields.

This year given the challenge is in the fall I'm not working around baseball, but volleyball games. However, I have decided to target my home county of Weld. In the morning I'll be primarily birding in Erie up until a mid-morning break for volleyball, after which I'll bird my way out to the Pawnee National Grasslands. I'm not birding in the competitive classification, though I will be aiming to make it a Big Day and see as many species in the county that I can.

Target species for the morning trek include Great Horned Owl, Barn Owl, Yellow-breasted Chat, Blue Grosbeak, Swainson's Hawk, amongst others. In the afternoon I will be hoping for several shore birds, the Colorado State Bird, Lark Bunting, as well as a couple different lifer Longspurs and a lifer Mountain Plover.
